Recharging your air conditioner yourself is inexpensive and can be completed in just a few minutes.Recharge your AC system properly. I go though all of the steps on how to safely charge your air conditioning system with refrigerant. First you need to evacuate the system, then pull a vacuum, and then add the correct amount of refrigerant based on weight.

This is one of the most quick and easy tasks to perform when maintaining a vehicle. Locate the high and low service port:The high side port should be on the line between the condenser and the expansion valve or orifice tube while the low side port will be on the return line between the evaporator (firewall) and compressor. The high side port is larger in size than the low side.

Watch the video from ChrisFix for more info. Then connect the gauge (photo 2). Check the pressure reading on the gauge. If it reads zero, your system is completely empty and this repair won’t work. You need to take your vehicle to a pro.

If the gauge shows some pressure, start the engine and turn your A/C to “Max” and the fan to “High.” Then check the compressor clutch (photo 3). If it’s spinning, add refrigerant until the gauge reaches the recommended pressure shown in the instructions. Disclaimer: This is done by a professional don’t try this at home.
